Why Custom Reel Covers Trigger Blanket AI Labels
Many creators record real-world video footage but design stunning, high-CTR cover thumbnails using Midjourney, Photoshop Generative Fill, or Canva Magic Design. When you upload the Reel and attach that custom thumbnail, Instagram's ingest scanner detects the C2PA manifest in the cover image and flags the entire post.
1. The Video File
Video clips generated with Runway, Kling, or Sora carry frame-level frequency signals or container manifests.
2. The Cover Image
Custom JPEG/PNG thumbnails often contain Adobe XMP or Midjourney metadata that triggers the AI label.
3. The Solution
Process both the video thumbnail and still frame assets in UnlabelAI before selecting them in Instagram.
Instagram Reels AI Questions
Why does an Instagram Reel get labeled with AI Info?
Reels have two primary assets that Meta scans upon upload: the video file itself and the custom cover/thumbnail image. If either asset contains C2PA metadata, Adobe Firefly credentials, or SynthID watermarks, Meta automatically applies the "AI Info" label to the entire Reel.
Does an AI Info label reduce Reel reach in the recommendation algorithm?
Yes. Instagram's algorithmic ranking actively tests content in the Reels tab for non-followers. Content labeled as AI Info is frequently categorized differently and suppressed from broad algorithmic distribution unless it demonstrates exceptional initial engagement.
How should I handle custom cover images generated with Midjourney or DALL-E?
Always run your custom cover images through UnlabelAI before selecting them as your Reel cover in the Instagram app. This strips the generative provenance headers and injects camera optics so your cover passes inspection.
Can I fix a Reel that is already posted?
Instagram does not allow editing metadata on published Reels. You must delete the post, sanitize your video and cover photo through UnlabelAI, and re-upload.
